西元1794年（寬政六年）8 月 23 日，日本大乘丸漁船從陸奧國名取郡閑水浜邑出港運送貢米到江戶，途中遭遇海難，在海上漂流數月。直至甲寅年(1974年)閏十一月二十日左右漂流至安南不知的小島，才得以獲救。
但至今仍不能確切的知道此島的位置。這個島的位置一直是學者和歷史愛好者所關注的謎題。
